What is the Sashiko Subscription Box (beta), you ask? The beta part refers to the first box being a limited release which will also come with a feedback questionnaire so you can tell me what you think needs to be improved or what works well. The goal is to have a presentable subscription box that will launch in January with a seasonally appropriate project and/or set of nifty items every month. Prototypes are in the works right now.
Over the past year a few magazines approached me to design projects for them, and I couldn’t do it. I felt like I’d hit a wall. The idea of sending out a surprise project every month with all the materials included sounds like much more fun than making something that will only be in a glossy photo spread (although those are really cool, let’s be honest). I’m a tactile person. If I can inspire you to make amazing things in 3D by handing you the materials and not just a bunch of photos, I’d rather do that.
The beta will be limited to 20 boxes as I tinker with packaging, presentation, and project itself. After that, future subscription boxes will be available for pre-order through our Etsy shop.
Here’s a sneak peek at the December box. It will include a new pre-printed design from QH Textiles (we just got these from the artist!), thread, needle, and a few other surprises.
Oh! Boxes will have the option to add Japanese incense for those who like it. I like to burn a bit of incense while I sew as it’s pleasant and calming, and the brand I’ve chosen is one that I find doesn’t give me any headaches or uncomfortable side effects. Japanese incense is typically of very high quality, and if you’re the type who enjoys scent, you will likely be happy with these. If you don’t like it, no problem. It’s an add-on, so you won’t be sent any unless you order it.
When can you get your hands on one of these boxes? They’ll be available through our Etsy shop on Cyber Monday, Nov. 27 until they sell out. All I ask is that you let me know what you think of it when you receive your box, and offer your helpful suggestions on how we can improve your experience.
Excited yet? I am! My notebook is full of ideas and my worktable is covered in prototype projects right now. While tidying up I picked up a small bundle of linen fabric and a few bright cotton cherry blossom petals fluttered out, which impressed the cat.
She can’t have them, those are for February.
Dang girl, I hope I get one. My thanksgiving celebration is actually on black Friday.
I love subscription boxes, but I am a very slow sewist and would love a quarterly option.
Good luck on this new venture!
Hi There, I looked on Easy and on Kimonomoma and I could not find beta box in either place. Can you point me in the right direction, please?
Thanks, Kate

Hi Kate, they are sold out at this time. We’ll have the next set available in December.
