Sashiko Subscription Kit for May – available now through May 15.

This month’s Sashiko Subscription Kit features a heavier weight pre-printed navy blue cotton with squares printed in wash-out ink. The designs are perfect for spring with flowers, dragonflies, and bunnies, and we have chosen a selection of Hida Sashiko threads to go with the fabric. And that’s not all… we managed to acquire an extremely limited run of yarn dyed cottons from Cosmo that were made especially for the Tokyo Quilt Festival this year! A selection of these fabrics will be included in each kit.

Each month we offer a limited number of kits in our Etsy shop. You can buy a three, six, or twelve month subscription or order monthly kits individually, but as we limit how many kits are produced, some may sell out! Buying the extended monthly subscriptions is your best bet to make sure you get each kit, and save quite a bit of money over individual kits.

If you like Japanese incense, we also offer it as an add-on item with your subscription.

The Art of Sashiko – lecture at the Society for Asian Art – June 9 – San Francisco, CA

I’ll bring my private collection of vintage sashiko pieces to the San Francisco Asian Art Museum’s Education Studio on Saturday, June 9 at 10:30am. This will be more academic than my usual Quilt Guild lectures, focusing not just on the textiles, but the socio-economic history of Japan and how cotton changed everything.
